Tanpura Super Deluxe Model -Gents, Calcutta This is a super deluxe Tanpura. Thespecial overtone-rich sound is achieved by applying the principle of Jivari whichcreates a sustained, "buzzing" sound in which particular harmonicswill resonate with focused clarity. 'Jiva' refers to 'soul', that which giveslife. What is implied is that an 'animated' tone-quality is the idea which thetanpura embodies. The principle of Jivari can be likened to the prismaticrefraction of white light into the colours of the rainbow, as its acoustictwin-principle at work. The Tanpura is called as the Tambura isa long necked plucked lute, tumba made with a dried Gourd. This isa stringed instrument found in different versions in differentplaces. This is also called Tambora in Marathi, Tambura inSouth India, Tamburo in Gujarati, or Tanpura in North India in its bodily shapesomewhat resembles the sitar, but it has no frets, as only the openstrings are played as a harmonic accompaniment to the other musicians. It hasfour or five (rarely, six) wire strings, which are plucked one after another ina regular pattern to create a harmonic resonance on the basic note. Standard tunning of the Tanpura isPA sa sa SA means if you want to tune your Tanpura on 'C' note, then 1st string 'G 'lower 2nd string 'C' natural, 3rd string 'C'natural 4th string 'C' lower.
